Does a multi-tool with a chain-splitter exist that’s not heavy? How do weight weenies carry a chain tool?

What is your definition of "not heavy"?

I have a Topeak PT30 which has a chain tool which is claimed as weighing 169g.

I've got one like that too. IME Topeak tools are decent and haven't needed to buy one for a while so a bit out of touch with their range. The lightest one with a chain splitter seems to be the Ninja 16 which is only 90g. If I was speccing up a lightweight kit, that's what I'd get.

I have been carrying the same one (vaguely like the Topeak one above, but smaller and older - might be a Topeak TT2518 MINI 18 from a cursory google) since about 2002.

I have used it only once (while out on the bike) in all that time and that was when someone else's very old, very knackered chain came apart.

I'd probably still keep a tool with a chain-splitter in my saddle bag though, just in case.

My favourite is the MT Zoom.

https://mtzoom.com/products/handy-multitool

Its cheap, has a chain splitter, is 86g, and has nearly full size allen keys that are easily removable.

In my opinion it deserves to be better known, as its very good at what it does. I needed a tool with 8mm and 10mm spanners for an older bike, and that's quite hard to find on very compact multitools now.

I have one of these https://uk.oneupcomponents.com/products/edc-v2-too... in my steerer tube, don't know about weight, but it's pretty good.

Err How do you get it out if its inside your steerer tube and presumably the top cap is tightened by an allen key? do you have to carry another allen key somewhere?

I have the same thing but inside their own pump which makes for a very complete little kit. It’s a good pump too.

I've got one of these:

https://www.topeak.com/global/en/product/1543-POWE...

Tyre levers with quick link pliers and a chain tool integrated into them. Light, same size as a pair of tyre levers.

However as I'm running tubeless I don't carry tyre levers and a tube and patches, at least on normal rides and it doesn't quite fit in the tool pouch I carry in a jersey pocket.

There's no top cap, the tool covers it and you just pull the tool out. Awesome little thing, have it on both my bikes. I have zero idea how it all works, I'm completely mechanically inept, so paid the bike shop to fit them.

+1

I have one in the pump too, very convenient to have pump and basic tools in one little package to swap between bikes.
