Remote key fob repairable?

Key fob has stopped working, I thought battery but when I opened it up it’s corroded.
Land Rover quoted £700 for a replacement.
My skills will stop at giving it a good squirt of switch cleaner and a gentle brush.

You've nothing to lose by trying. Best case scenario is that water has caused corrosion and left enough contamination to stop the logic working.

Worst case the electronics have been destroyed by corrosion or by electrical damage due to the external contamination. In that case it's probably beyond economic repair unless you have a tame electronics engineer intimately familiar with these things.

At £700 for a replacement, it's worth letting someone have a go at it first

New ones are available on Ebay starting from around £14.

Stopped working in what way? Completely dead? Or some of the buttons work/some don't. It could be one of the microswitches has gone, and they can usually be replaced.

If you have replaced the battery, do you have to "pair" it back with the car? (My Saab needs you to put key in ignition, turn to start position, turn it off and withdraw the key in order for the remote unlock to work after replacing the battery)
