CCTV van constantly on double yellows: allowed?

This is from a mate in Dulwich, south London. Apparently they park there all day and it’s ‘pissing people off’.

He asked on a group chat if it was legal to park there: as a fat opera singer I have no idea, but hopefully one or more of you will.

Either due to a school/college or even just the locals themselves parking there.


It’s unlikely there because someone had a large map of the area, a blindfold and a single dart.

That looks like the road outside Alleyns School, so very probably catching people parked at pick up time. .

You'll have to look at the Traffic Order to see what exemptions are written into it in order to know.

Ask Jane (Lunnon) if it’s anything to do with the School, aren’t there some strange rules around Dulwich and the schools as to who owns what?

The yellow lines don’t look 100% either.

How does the CCTV camera know if your engine is idling? And how do you deliver/collect your children from school without stopping? Just push the buggers out at 5mph?

I think I have worked out what that van is doing.

Outside the school there are quite a few parking bays reserved for buses and coaches. The school has a coach network for its pupils that serves a lot of south London. If the coaches can’t park because there are cars in their bays, that makes for a big problem. So my guess is that the CCTV is policing the coach/bus bays for parents parking their cars in them.

For which I have some sympathy.

The irony of the fact that they could move back to be at least 50% off the double yellows.

Additionally, being parked where it is, is actually making more of an obstruction, due to narrowing of the road and blocking visibility from the driveway it is parked close to.

I have no issue with these enforcement vehicles catching people who regularly cause a menace, but when they are just as bad as the original perpetrators, what is the point?

Why the need to park on double yellows - when 6 feet behind the van there are no double yellows ?

Are those double yellows legally enforceable they appear to be rather narrow and a lack of supporting signage

The parking may have a purpose that is exempt, that will be in any order for the lines.
Whatever the exemption the use of it is not always the best tactic. It leads to giving a bad impression, especially as has been pointed out, there are no lines not far from the place the van is stopped.
There appears to be a small egress to the main road too. Even if there were no lines that’s not the best place to park

They can do that also.

But the reality is that outside any school they will be parked early on those DYL waiting at pickup.
And that’s. Just the older kids.
The younger ones they will be walking all the way to the classroom.
