Tbh I understood his answer, whereas I’m perplexed as to the meaning of the word salad posted above it.

Your post makes no sense. Did you have a question or were you just having a rant?

Is the post….”is there any way I can speak to the RAC before they come out?”

If not then I’m lost too.

I think he’s trying to contact the RAC asking if he can supply his own alternator and keep the broken one to take back for the surcharge refund

It reads like the RAC are going to come back and repair his car and charge him £200 labour?

If that's correct, I didn't know they did that sort of thing.

Your post is a mess and no one can properly understand what you're asking.

I THINK it goes something like this
- alternator died
- RAC confirmed dead
- Different RAC guy coming to fix
- OP wants him to remove the alternator so he can fix an exchange one not an outright purchase one
- Can't call the RAC to ask them this question

Do you phone the RAC I've tried for a few days and going round in circles. They want EVERYTHING done online I'm sure.
I'm getting an alternator fitted on Monday but forgot to ask the breakdown guy that first came out to check it if I bought it and once the RAC mech took mine off, I could then take it back to cover the surcharge therefore instead of costing me £520 (as they'll buy a new one outright for about £300) then his labour about 200ishh. It would cost me around £400, yes I know it's still 400 but 100ish is better in my pocket than their account.

But as I can't bloody phone to ask, I don't know and would need to wait till the RAC mech phoned in Monday and say to him.
Then again he'll probably phone to say he's got one and will be there such n such time.

What's the best thing to do here..
Ahem

The RAC don’t even do this though do they? If they are unable to repair on the spot then they transport your vehicle to a garage or any other reasonable destination and you take it (organising the repairs) from there.
Has the OP encountered a moonlighting operative? If so it’s not surprising that the RAC don’t seem cooperative.
