Here's an annoying quote that goes against everything we've said here. What planet are these people on???? do WE speed around town? don't think so. They get worse too. Take a look at www.slower-speeds.org.uk if you want to see the ugly side of the anti-car mob. Basically say that speed is the problem, and bad driving is ok as long as you don't speed!
C

MISCHIEF: Bad driving — not speed — is the cause of crashes.

REALITY: The correlation between crashes and speed is indisputable, as shown above. TRL 421 found that drivers who choose speeds above the average on some roads tend also to do so on all roads, as the rates of speeding on all roads indicate. The driver ‘harmlessly’ speeding on an ‘empty’ road is just as likely to do so in built-up areas. Most drivers speed.

Carl,

My blood pressure is now off the scale.

They have listed their address, so I suggest any junk mail that has an address entry, just fill it out to them.

Twentys plenty my arse!

Matt.

Disclaimer: I dont speed in Urban areas, but if we give them an inch they will take the piss.

There is overwhelming evidence that lower speeds result both in fewer collisions and in reduced severity of collisions. One of the most powerful research findings of recent years has been that an increase in average speed of 1mph results in an average 5% increase in the total number of crashes. Correspondingly, a 1mph reduction in average speed results in an average 5% reduction in crashes. This means that even marginal reductions in average speeds can result in major road safety gains.

OH FFS....

Hmmm.

Quick dig.....

Everything *but* .org.uk is available. So you can register a .com & .co.uk and have it put your point over....

The website is registered to hopone internet corp.....

And is running Apache 1.3.26, PHP 4.2.2, cgi 2.2.12, ssl 2.9.10, open ssl 0.9.4.

As it's hosted by a corperation I'd suspect it could be tricky to compromise. Not that I'd condone such an act or have any idea how such a criminal would go about it.......

I think it means that scroats are more likely to play on the roads.

but thats not what it says in context though. it says:

"The impact of vehicle speed is felt more by children and young people and those living in poorer communities"

their actual conclusion is if you're in a poorer community you get hit harder by the car..

:muppets:

either that or its a very poor use of the word Impact !?

Rereading that (or reading it properly for the first time perhaps) I read it as "A car going fast, *anywhere* will impact this section of society more than others".

Which makes even less sense.

But hey. We know they can't think straight. Why should we expect them to make any sense.....

I wish these people would advertise themselves in their cars with stickers etc because i would love to meet one and drive in front of them at 11mph in a 60mph and see how they react.

Although we should also show them respect as i would guess most of them fought in the Great war for our right to freedom

If you call up the post office, they have to tell you what address a PO Box corresponds to. We could have a Pie and Blockade Outing

The same old speed kills nonsense.

Of course, if we take this to it's logical conclusion we would ban speed - thereforre eradticating traffic related fatalities - altogether.

So unless we're all prepared to live with a 0mph blanket limit, why don't these ninnies grow up and accept that accidents will always are always possible.

Likely causes of road deaths, that they don't ewver talk about are inappropriate speed, numpties who can't quite manage to drive on their own side of the carriageway, numpty pedestrians (and their kids) who fail to see the danger of wandering about on the road.

Then theres the idiots who drive, whilst on the 'phone, and eating a pastie, steering with god knows what part of their anatomy, and morons who overtake without the small courtesey of using indicators.

And I bet when you look at most of the above 'real' dangers, are perpetrated by your average 'speed kills' bore.

The Slower Speeds Initiative was founded in March 1998 by the
  • Children's Play Council (a.k.a. Parents who can't be arsed to assume responsibility for the actions of their kids),
  • Cyclist's Touring Club (a.k.a. we don't have to take a test so can't be expected to cycle safely),
  • Environmental Transport Association(a.k.a. all that speed, young man, it's killing the planet),
  • Pedestrians' Association(a.k.a. We're too stupid to look before stepping into the road),
  • Pedestrians' Policy Group(Ditto),
  • Road Danger Reduction Forum(Who?),
  • RoadPeace(Ha ha ha ha ha! You youngsters with your noisy cars and bikes),
  • Sustrans(Sustainable Transport? Tell the feckin' government. Grrr)
  • Transport 2000(We know all about them already. Hrmpf.)

Grrr. Time to lie down now.

I was having a relaxing day off until 10 minutes ago. Utter w@ankers. Selective use of statistics in the extreme. I'll be writing to their bloody e-mail address before the day is out.

These people make me so mad and it's such a shame that I don't know anyone who shares those opinions, purely for the sake of having a damn good argument. Though I get the impression that a set-to with them would be a rather one sided affair (like the Python sketch: "I came in here for an argument, but this is just contradiction"; "No it isn't"...).

Need a cigarette.
