TPMS Amber MOT Fail
Discussion
Morning All
Just trying to clarify if an Orange TPMS warning light in my 2016 Swift Sport will fail an MOT which is in a couple of weeks.
Pressures were fine when i checked but added a bit more to be safe with temps changing so now up to 35psi all round.
Normally a blast of air and a drive and it resets itself, but not this time
I have given them a squirt of wd40 to see if that loosens anything seized
The system does not indicate which tyre/sensor is at fault so would it be a case of all tyres off to replace sensors till faulty one shows up ?
I have read that its only an MOT fail if tester proves the TPMS system is at fault, if a warning light is on they will move on to check tyre pressures
if a tyre or tyres are under pressure then TPMS is doing its job and just needs resetting by driving so will pass.
Can i really let 10-15PSI out of a tyre so the tester assumes my system is working and issues a pass.
If so thats what i will do but thats bonkers lol
Any MOT testers out there please to help

The tester has to be SURE the TPMS warning light is indicating a fault and not just doing its job (showing a discrepancy in tyre pressures across the vehicle).
I dare say some testers will pass and advise (that’s changed slightly), and some will fail.
Edited to add; i’m not sure many testers will go to the trouble of setting all the tyre pressures and attempting to reset the system.
They’re going to either pass or fail it.

According to the rules a tester has no obligation to do anything other than carry out the MoT. A TPMS light staying on is a fail.I dare say some testers will pass and advise (that’s changed slightly), and some will fail.

I would advise it. We have to be sure the lamp is indicating a system malfunction before we can fail it. If the lamp flashes for a few seconds, or if there is a message on the dash saying there is a malfunction as well as the lamp, then I would fail it.Just trying to clarify if an Orange TPMS warning light in my 2016 Swift Sport will fail an MOT which is in a couple of weeks.

TPMS checks were added to the MOT test checklist in January 2015. Since then, you can receive an instant MOT fail if the TPMS dashboard light stays on to indicate a fault or problem with the TPMS valves.
Incorrect. The light will tell you of a fault, or incorrect pressures.
We have a shed where such a light is on so I asked MOT bloke. His reply was it could indicate incorrect pressures, as long as he doesn't see the words TPMS system fault, or similar, then he will assume it's a tyre pressure issue.
If asked I was told to say that the pressures were wrong
Thanks everyone for your suggestions, light has now reset through a combination of
Setting the TPMS on the dash back to comfort mode the lowest PSI as apposed to ECO or Loaded
It was set to this but at some point car has changed this setting.
Pumping all tyres up to 38PSI more than i would like but if light off will pas MOT so can let some out after.
Drove 100 yards down road with the high pressure in and light went off
Interesting that you guys reckon it is only an MOT fail if Tester proves its a system fault, so my theory you could go in with one under inflated tyre and blame it on that does seem to stick.
Crazy rules we seem to follow
Thanks all

I had exactly the same conversation with a mot tester. The light will tell you of a fault, or incorrect pressures.
