Just moved into a new flat.

A BT engineer is coming out in 2 1/2 weeks to set up my phone line.

I rang up to ask if broadband could be set up at the same time and they said no, a 48hour period after the engineer had come would be required followed by a 5 day to 6 week (!) wait to get broadband.

Any idea how true this is and if so, why can't I get broadband at the same time my phone line is activated? Need the net asap.

I've just been through this, although BT managed a same day reactivation of a line that was there before, rather than a multi-week wait.

Broadband is a 5 day wait with Freedom to Surf, once the line test is done.

Standard practise I'm afraid - it's all to do with the SLA (Service Level Agreements).

Basicly unless you are a very big business customer you have to wait the standard times along with every one else - 30 days usually on most things.

There is no, repeat NO way you can speed this up - I've tried on numerous £7/8k leased lines and each time had to endure the fantastic 60 days waiting period. Even on a LES 100 install (100Mb/sec up AND down - at £125,000) I had to jump through hoops to get in speeded up!!!

You'll just have to wait I'm afraid - mind you though, most installations beat the expected delivery times - you'll just have to be lucky!
