I was just using the above filters only on Autotrader, and it brings up (for me at least) some interesting contrasts and is a range I'm potentially buying something in.

So I'm just curious, gun to your head, what would you get in this specific range, mint white good/mundane (but potentially nostalgic) mobile, barge, sporty convertible, modern classic, or very old mini etc it feels like there is something that would appeal to everyone (above a certain age).

I’ve got a white goods shopping trolley and a family barge so to complement them I’d go for a coupe or 2 seater -probably go for a Boxster or a TT although there are a few SL500s that look the business.

Off the top of my head I’d like a very fresh Mondeo V6 in ghia x trim!

I did exactly this ,albeit a £4-6k budget and recently picked up a 2005 CLK 320 with 40k miles on for sub £4k.
It's a lovely old thing to waft about in, although it's currently back at the dealer to sort out a couple of 'issues'.

I can't understand this obsession with Fords.

My first car was a MK2 Cortina and I had a MK2 Granada 2.8 Ghia, a Mk2 Escort RS2000, 2.8i Capri x2, 2.8i Scorpio and finally a 2.0GLSi Sierra Sapphire. Apart from the clapped-out rust-bucket Cortina they were decent cars, but chosen by my budget at the time.

I've driven Mondeos and while they drove well the cooking models were FWD scrabble-wagons!

I bought my manual 2005 BMW 330i in 2019 for under half of the top end of the budget.
