V5 error? Letter at end?

Hi all,

So I'm considering buying a vintage motorhome and before making a decision, I wanted to check if parts are available. It's was built in 1986 and is based on an Iveco Daily chassis/engine etc - the rest is coachbuilt. I also know it's had an engine change at some point but when I don't know.

My issue is that when searching for parts - every website or parts dealer I've spoken with has an issue and it seems to be caused by the VIN number. It has the letter 'R' as the last digit instead of a number. Websites tend to not find the vehicle whereas shops I've spoken with find teh vehicle using the reg, but when they use the VIN to search for parts, it gives an error message. Tax and insurance wise it seems fine as I've already bought temporary insurance so I can drive it home should I buy it and that was no problem.

Has anyone seen anything like this before? I'm waiting for a call back from the DVLA but thought I'd post here too.

I'm guessing from the title that you've used the chassis number from the V5. Have you compared it to the one on the vehicle itself?

I've not viewed the vehicle yet but will do on Saturday. I've seen a picture of the V5 though. Will check to see if there's a difference when I see it.
