I'll be picking up a new (to me) car next Friday. It's in Cambrishire and will be driving it back home to Glasgow (with an overnight somewhere along the way). I'll have my boy with me who is nearly 5 and a little petrolhead too.

We visited Mercedes-Benz world last year and we loved that. Looking for any recommendations on anything interesting to do or places to stop? All the circuits don't have much on event wise for the Saturday (12th).

Can travel up East or West side of the country, time difference is negligible. Thanks!

Duxford Air Museum is good if you've not been and if you have even a small interest in planes.

+1 to this, there's also the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust which is right next door if you like old Jag concepts and prototypes (they have the V12 XJ220 there for instance)

Indeed. Plus it has an 'army' section with vehicles as well.

Nice and easy as it is right on the motorway junction (j10 M11) - unless the part of Cambs you are starting from is Peterborough and then it is in the wrong direction.

There is also the RAF Museum at Cosford (between Wolverhampton and Telford) that is pretty good.

Also very easy to get to, just off M40 near Warwick junction.

The upper floor of the Jaguar section at Gaydon has dozens of bizarre British motor industry curios including horrendous one-offs that never saw production such as what appears to be a Morris Ital flatnose. If you want to see the last Allegro built it's the place to go.

We went here not too long ago and it was a lot better than I expected. Good audio/tablet little gadget to scan the descriptions for more stories on the cars.

Wife got to sit in her first car, a Hillman Imp.

Gaydon is definitely worth a visit if you haven't been.

Or if you are a fan of Bangers and Cash a trip to Thornton-Le-Dale and/or arranging a viewing at their Pickering site might appeal.

I dropped in on the off-chance last year and had a brief chat with Derek and Dave. Sadly they'd just had an auction so everything sold was being collected and viewings weren't an option (I should have checked first). rolleyes
