Following on from the thread on here about repurchasing childhood toys, what were your top three childhood Christmas presents?

1: Space Hopper - the original one, i had that thing for years and got sooo much use out of it until the horns broke off. I was devastated the day it had to go
2: Action man style tank, again, i got sooo much use out of that we even ended up using it as a sort of go kart until it fell apart.
3: Leather football - we used it every day for almost 3 years, it hurt like hell when it was soaking wet and the only reason it didn't last longer was because someone i thought was a mate, kicked it towards the main road and someone ran over it. It had a panel partially coming loose and so the bladder was sticking out - kind of like how they relieve pressure on the brain - and his exhause pipe burst the bladder.

Not necessarily in that order, they were all enjoyed for many years at totally different times. Still have the mardave. Miss the BMX, still have an Atari.

It wasn't the same Christmas

To be fair I was pretty bloody lucky looking back.

I remember the Atari and Master System were back when Toys R Us had just become a thing in the UK.

Anyone of a similar age probably remembers the sheer delight as a kid of walking into a superstore full of toys with quite literally aisles full of game cartridges and games on cassette tape!

I remember borrowing a ZX80 from school and taking it home to learn some BASIC. In those days such things had to be plugged into the TV. When my dad got home he said "get that bloody thing off the tv".... and that was the start and end of my programming career!

It's the lottery of life I guess.

I do remember getting a book "Strange stories, amazing facts". Kept me enthralled for years. Still got it now as a treasured possession.
