Looks like you can get an approved used 3yr old Range Rover D300 for £40-45k with the Sport being a bit less. That seems very good value for money. I know they are unreliable, get stolen and cost a fortune to insure but surely they aren’t that bad?!
Ideally looking for a nearly new 530d Touring but they are slim pickings and the X5 seems expensive.

Interestingly, I saw the RRS Diesels and the Defender were actually amongst the top 3 most reliable cars in their segment in the latest WhatCar survey!
Overall JLR wasn't great so I guess something else is a complete s
tshow!
The new model RRS and FFRR do seem well built to me, I know there's been a huge focus on it but our D350 RRS is fantastic.

Try getting an insurance quote first before committing to any.
We thought the pricing was great for a 3yr old RR and then we got quotes….. £5-8k and we are both in our late 40s.
This was compared to £900 for an X5 or Q7.
Incidentally, we ended up with an ex demo M240i which was even cheaper to insure and believe me, way better and more fun to drive!

I love the M240i, used to own one and probably one of my top 3 owned cars of all time but it seems bizarre that someone shopping big SUV’s would buy a M240i instead? We thought the pricing was great for a 3yr old RR and then we got quotes….. £5-8k and we are both in our late 40s.

We love BMWs also and live very rural.
Our M135i (husbands car) had just been written off by someone who went into the back of us.
We had hired an XC90 to take our son to uni and loved the spaciousness and comfort of it and thought we would look about for size and what we could get for £40-45k. Seemed perfect for rural living also.
This was all until we firstly took a look at RR and for insurance quotes. So we then stepped into our local BMW showroom and the X5 we were interested in had sold an hour prior to our visit. Everything else within the group just wasn’t fitting the bill.
Husband had a sit in the M240i and instantly fell in love. Had also seen plenty of online videos and usual reviews etc.
Plus knowing it has the beautiful B58 engine.
So that was it sold to us there and then! Plus fabulous spec too as was the managers ex demo.
I do believe we will keep it for a very very long time as it is rather beautiful to drive, looks and sounds amazing!
Plus all our children can now drive and have their own cars, so in essence we didn’t really even need the bigger car: it was just what we thought we wanted.
This is WAY WAY more fun. You smile every time you get in it and drive.

Even allowing for hyperbole that's a bit OTT. No 3 year old car is particularly risky in the grand scheme of things especially under manufacturer warranty.
I run a 9 year old Bentley how big are mine lol?
