I'm hopeless at decisions and am at a loss where to head to for 3 nights next weekend (Sat to Tues).
We want a max of 2.5 hours flight time, ideally warm, relaxing but interesting (Done Barcelona & Venice), friendly and nice food. Can be beach or city break but we won't be hiring a car so central ish to the airports. Nothing too expensive though

I was thinking Florence, Majorca, possibly Vienna though I guess that rules out the warm part. but no idea where else.
I like the idea of Seville but that only flies from Gatwick and due to distance we can only fly from Luton or Stansted.

Just after some inspiration really

Can you get to Lisbon or Oporto from either airport? Both lovely cities and 2.5 hr flights. Will be lovely and warm as well. We left Oporto only a fortnight ago having had a really great stay.

Normally I'd agree and is usually lovely but I landed at PORTO airport last night crab fashion, the flight also delayed because of hurricane Beryl. The weather I left behind in the UK was only just slightly cooler and drier. Somewhere in the Med perhaps away from the weather?

By now You’ll need somewhere on the costas or greek islands, anywhere else is too cold or temperamental, even leaving till last minute on weather predictions is no guarantee..

You’ll still get warm eves in the aforementioned areas, really important imo.

Not Benidorm itself (unless you like that sort of thing)but sha wellness (shawellness.com )or asiagardens.es just outside we use for intermediate stops on way down to estepona.

3hr flight for you guys tho, think thats going to be a minimum to get decent weather right now

My suggestion would be to go onto Wikipedia & look at Luton & Standsted airports then towards the bottom shows “airlines & destinations”, that’ll give you ideas of what’s out there before trawling other sites

You’ve quite a bit of restrictions on yourselves though with 2.5hrs. (Pushing that to 4hrs opens up the likes of Lanzarotte.)

Ever been to Malaga ? It's perfect for a 3 day city break .. Lots to do and see plus nice boat rides for a reasonable price

If you can stretch to 3 hours there’s one place I can think of wink

Friday outward and Monday return.

Sardinia. Lots of beach resorts and cities to choose from. Cheap flights into Olbia this time of year.

Thanks James - already thought of that but dates are sadly set due to work commitments smile

Hilton Porto Gaia, stayed there several times. Perfect location for the Port Cellars.

Would second Malaga or Alicante.

We went to Lisbon in October and we’re unlucky with the weather so maybe look at the forecast.

Rome might be a possibility as should still be pretty warm.

Some friends highly recommended Florence and Pisa

Another vote for Malaga. Get a nice hotel in the old town. Everything is easy reach on foot and the underground trains are a single line in and out of the city. Last stop furthest from the airport (20 mins) is the old town. Could not be simpler.

Old town has a great array of bars and restaurants. Authentic tapas through to M*, marina has good bars and plenty to see.

Roman ruins, big food market, beaches, out of town outlet shopping village half an hour in the tube is weather dodgy. Plus the old town itself is great to explore. Backstreets full of old Spain places.

3 days perfect amount of time.

I'd figure I'd hijack this thread rather than make a new one.

I may have a week's leave to use before end of year and looking for ideas on where to go.

I don't much care for beaches, not too fussed about the weather (above -30 would be nice though) and can handle long flights so no limits there.

Things I want.
- affordable accomodation (£500 or under for a week).
- good food.
- don't mind a good ruin or museum (history and technology as opposed to art).
- a good bar is a plus.

Looking at Alicante and Portugal but open to other suggestions. Ultimately just want to relax for a week in a place I'm not familiar with.

Nice and has the bonus of a day trip to Monaco on the train for a few euros.
Villefranche also between the 2 cities.
Dead easy to get from the airport on the tram.

If you're in Alicante you can take a day trip to Cartagena that has a Roman Amphitheatre and a museum of underwater archaeology.

OP - if you can squeeze a 3 hour flight in you could include Malta, somewhere a bit different.
