I am 60 next year so is wife ,and I have been convinced I want to hire a villa for a couple of weeks for an extended family holiday .
Two weeks or so , both retired so not fixed , we would drive from UK .
Daughter, husband and two boys 4 and 1.5 would fly down , hire a car and spend about 10 days. Son and his girlfriend would fly down for a week . We do want own pool and preferably walk to a restaurant or two if possible, but I know this is a big ask. Started looking in Southern France at villas equidistant between Nice and Marseille, on the coast . Not fixed there but son and girlfriend have been there a few times and know it's ok.
I am up for any suggestions please, with experience.
I think it would cost me about £7.5k in that area to get a four or five bedroom place three bathrooms and pool and gardens etc , so that probably my budget

Thank you

I've stayed here a few times. Would absolutely recommend.

If you fancy Lefkada in Greece, this is my place for rental.....

https://youtu.be/JHy6y5In-iQ?si=L--E6jVqEKssESd3

4 ensuite bedrooms (sleeps 8 in beds), but can put a camp bed or two in there.
20 minute walk into Nidri

Depending on season a 2 week rental would be £3,200 in low season to £7,000 in high season.

For a minute I thought that was a villa I stayed in 10+ years ago! biggrin. I didn't have a sea view though smile.

We hired a villa with private pool in Provence last year in August. Stayed about 15 miles from Mont Ventoux. Weather was stunning, property brilliant, food and scenery fantastic. I am longing to go back!

I'd recommend a place on Brac, either in Milna or in Bol (Hvar, the next island, also good but slightly more expensive)

Villas should be a good clip less expensive when there, food is great and the drive down very pleasant (we've done it twice now). Looks to be plenty of very suitable villas, all in a <5 min walk to town on Airbnb/booking.com

I would look at Central Algarve as an alternative. If you take the ferry down to Spain, it makes a lovely drive. For your visiting family in the central Algarve, your never far from Faro Airport.

Bumping my own thread and I have been instructed to book Portugal rather than France ,again trying to cover off the wants of young kids and young adults, and us .

So I have been looking at Villas near Albufeira this afternoon. ones less than 10 mins drive to the West . But I am hunting with little knowledge.

Any suggestions would be most welcome.

My original brief was post one .

Southern Spain, but we've stayed here twice. Most recent was July this year.

Having your own pool is such a great feeling, especially with kids.

I can recommend this place - I’ve stayed here a few times and it’s about half way between Nice and Marseille airports.

Pool, 4 bed, 3 bath, on the edge of a lovely village. Might be a bit far from the coast for you though?

Feel free to PM me if you want to know more.

We did 6 or so villa holidays in the Algarve and booked them all through Villa Plus which might be worth a look at their website.

No! Just wanted a villa, near to a few bars and restaurants for the whole crew. My daughter rented another place from this guy a few years ago and was over the moon with it

If you’re also looking at the western Algarve around Lagos and Luz I’d recommend

We have been renting our place through them since 2019 - they’re as professional as they come and have a great selection of villas. Book direct on their website rather than through AirBnB etc and you’ll save up to 15% on commission fees.

Having previously lived in the Algarve and subsequently holidayed there, I would choose Vilamoura for such a family holiday.

I rent villas in the south of France every year - usually 3 days driving down and 2 driving back making a 3 or 4 week holiday.

It's worth looking at villas with air conditioning if you can - I've been in a couple of heatwaves and aircon has been a godsend.

It sounds like you're now looking at Portugal.
