Extended warranty - why do they want V5?

I cant currently find it to purchase a 3yr extended warranty but why do they want it as its intrusive and they have all the owner and vehicle details anyway. "Porsche request it Sir" is no decent reason as its not their doc and its not for warranty purposes... Orgs lose data all the time so Id rather keep personal info distribution to a minimum!
One would assume its part of their way to make sure you are actually a private owner and not a smaller time dealer getting the Porsche extended warranty and then passing the sale off as private (From memory, the Porsche warranty does transfer on private sales, but not on trade sales outside the OPC network).
I even block tracking cookies Dibble and put a false name on Starbucks coffee orders 
But the trade/private sale thing Bob would give a legit reason maybe. In fact that info has maybe put me off getting the 3yr warranty, as if its cancelled on any P-Ex outside OPC its money down the drain. Cant imagine any refund esp after any prior claim?
Or do I just stick £3k in the bank as I usually do and self warranty to cover all the cars. The Mc one is £3k pa and so plan to self warranty on that... But £3k is good value on the Porker - ho hum!

Well its got a number on it that you need to do online things like register the car to others etc... I was part of the BA data breach etc so policy is to give out as few personal details as possible. Do you never ask 'why'? Just me maybe.
I think I will do the 1yr as the warranty gets cancelled if you sell to a non Porsche dealer - you may get some refund if haven't claimed. I know full well why they do it but know full well why I wont.

I do cyber security for a living. I’m pretty sure a warranty company isn’t interested in changing the RK on the logbook. Cheers
I asked because you mentioned personal data being a reason for not sending them the V5, but all your personal details that are on the V5 are the same ones you would share with them in order to take out a warranty.

Not intrusive as they already have pretty much the same personal details on you anyway. That said I have never been asked to show my V5 on any car where I have bought an extended warranty from the manufacturer including Porsche.
When the paperwork has come through it still shows all the personal details though.

Seriously why downplay that your data can get lost/hacked/stolen by 3d parties? I often try to give the minimum or make up something that will pass the tick box. Google tells me I have so many compromised hacked passwords regularly after all. It doesn't really matter as the important ones are unique and hard but you could get into the E32 forum with my Piston heads or Scoobynet password . Just me maybe
I'm with you; I detest the intrusion and requests for information which, under no circumstances, can be deemed 'necessary'. I've even been told 'it's for data protection purposes' when I've queried why they need certain information.

Having said that, perhaps it's just for proof that you're the regd. keeper; why not ask them why they need it and then redact the information that's not relevant. Or self-warranty, as you suggest.
