Wifi to my garage without running cables or changing router?

Having issues with Wi-Fi reception in my detached garage. It's only about 8ft from the house, but the router is at the opposite end of the house, so the signal is erratic at best. I've got a Wi-Fi camera in there but it rarely works.

Is there any solution that doesn't involve running a cable out or going through the rigmarole of replacing the router and switching 30 plus devices over?

Cheap WiFi extender or expensive Mesh network would be your best options.

I never found WiFi extenders to be very reliable. Power line may work depending on leccy set up but you'd still need to buy a wireless access point. If your router can be put into modem mode, mesh can be very cheap from eBay if you don't want especially high speeds.

I have a mesh set up with one in a first floor window that works fine with an outdoor wireless IP camera on a garage 30 feet away.

On the point of router change, I swapped mine but changed the name and password to be the same as the one it replaced so didn’t have to bother changing all device settings.

Alternatively, do what I did for my office area and re-purpose an old router to act as an additional WiFi access point nearer the garage.

Any recommendations for a WiFi extender please? I assume they don’t need any kind of wired connection?

We have a CCTV system which needs pass through port settings (or something?!?) updated everytime we change routers and it’s a massive ballache. It requires a call to the monitoring company every time, so I would rather avoid it if possible.

FYI - have a dig into your router, look for port forwarding (called othert things too, like Virtual server). Make a note of the entries, and then you can recreate them with ease on your next router.
Its far simpler than it 1st looks. All you are doing is telling the router where to send incoming traffic that is looking for something specific.

So on mine, below, for example, the 1st line translates as this:

Anything poking around my router from outside (the internet) and looking for port 8132, then send it along its way internally to 192.168.1.109 with the same port , 8123, and do it for BOTH UDP and TCP

(this way, on my lan, when I try and access my Home Assistant home automation from the internet, it'll get sent to my HA server, which is on 192.168.1.109

Yours will be pointing enquiries for cameras from outside to wherever they are inside.

Been using one of these for years to extend our wifi out to a garage that has been setup as an studio for the wife to do regular zoom classes.

Yes…I meant Devolo not TP. The Devolo devices were dreadful
