Good evening, we are currently buying a property in France and are looking at setting up a Euro account to:

A - get any rentals paid into
B - pay for expenses like direct debits etc out of
C - use as a current account for when we are out in Europe

We have looked at starling but they are currently not accepting new applications.

Does anyone have any advice for the three basic requirements above

I use Wise, I can certainly pay my French recurring debits out of it. Wise can provide a RIB (relevé d’identité bancaire) equivalent but the address is in Brussels, which may or may not be an issue

Having an account with a local bank near to where your house is may be a good idea. You may want help from them in the future with local knowledge etc.
I’m sure you already know that traditional French banks can be hard work and archaic at times but once established with them I’ve found them helpful.

Another option is crédit agricole Britline.

Édit to add . Don’t get forced into having a dedicated “business “ account for rental income but you will need a dedicated account for rental income and therefore you will need to apply for a fiscal number for operating the rental along with filling a French return.

Revolut fits all of the requirements above and will be quick and easy to set up, and cheap (or for your requirements probably free) to use.

I wouldn't bother mucking around trying to deal with a French bank!

Wise is ok but it started life as an foreign exchange service and you can tell... It's not as user friendly as a Revolut or Starling.

Used Crédit agricole Britline for years where really handy and worked for us. Monthly fee got a bit tedious and when I wanted to close my account was a faff.

Dealt with them for my mum and dad's accounts when they passed away and they tried to bill me a few years later for fees they shouldn't have but in the end they dropped it and paid me what I was owed!


Over all they where easy to use and maintain online
