Insurance quotes

Dear fellow Pistonheads, what's the best way to obtain repair quotes to give to an insurer? A third-party driver reversed into my parked car last week. They admit the accident, and there's a witness. My insurer has asked for repair quotes.

Where's best to go for quotes? Local garage? Specialist? Main dealer (seems excessive as the car is old). Should I supply a selection of quotes? I vaguely recall someone saying something about garages being registered to supply insurance quotes, but I could well be mistaken.

Her insurance used their own company anyway.

Always “ used “ to be the case that Insurers would ask for 3 different quotes although maybe post Covid and the like this never now happens ?

When my friend's neighbour scraped my car, I took it to BMW (Vertu repair center) and they sorted it all out which included claiming form the other driver's insurance. All I had to do was mention the 'accident' to my insurer at the next renewal.
