Undertaking at worst levels now

Did a couple of long drives recently across Pennines and surrounding motorways and undertaking is at epidemic levels. It's so dangerous. Does not seem to be limited to any particular type of driver. I've had lorries passing on the inside as well as every other sort of driver. Today I was on the outside lane and saw two cars almost hit each other on the inside as the slip road merged with the motorway. Both (and me) did last minute emergency corrections to avoid an accident.
It was probably one of the first rules I learnt from my dad saying it's not good practice while I was a passenger and not yet driving myself.
I would excuse anybody for doing it in the specific case of a speed limit nazi sitting bang on the limit in the outside lane while the other slower lanes are clear for them to drive in and the road ahead is also empty... that does happen!

If there was space on your left for a lorry to undertake you, why were you not in that space already?
They accelerate into the space that is available and then have to slow down when they reach the back of the slower car. Then I pass them again. If there was space on your left for a lorry to undertake you, why were you not in that space already?

I did undertake today though; a black astra adhering to the temp 60 limt in the outside lane on the m4. I went by him at 65 and the copper advertising in the outside lane waited a good 15 sec for for him to pull in.
Needless to say it wasn't the only crappy driving I witnessed on my 200 mile trip.
Not sure why everybody thinks this has to be my fault? I drive millimetres off the bumper of the car in front of me in the outside lane waiting for them to move over... unless they're making good progress and then I leave a sensible gap.
Shouldn't need pointing out that with this being the case it would still be possible for people to drive faster in the inside lane... until they reach the back of the next car and are forced to slow down.
