And the car must've been driven through that puddle pretty slowly, it's impressively clean for doing a spot of off roading.

Great pictures.

Its a bit flat like any raw file, but it looks pretty much the same. Why?

im not really into ps, i dont really know how to use it properly! I used an nd grad to do the sky, and a cpol to get the water / windows right, thats about it.

Matt, I have to say that much as I like the proficiency of the second shot here just thinking about the technical detail in setting up the first shot and then making the capture - with the myriad of little quirks of nature that could have screwed it up at any point - simply blows me away.

To get that out of the camera (if I have understood correctly) with an ngrad and a cpol, with the depth of field, the colour mixtures and the terrific reflections from the water is, in my view, superb.

I am still trying to work out how long you must have had to wait to get the water clear enough after positioning the vehicle, getting the front wheels right and washing the tyres.

I can't think of any appropriate superlatives.

Haha, easily pleased!

Whatever was in the water was still swirling around. We just drove the car in nice and slow then I walked in (wearing wellies) and wiped off the wheel with a cloth. Its not a particularly difficult shot by any means: park car, set up camera and compose image, adjust polariser for nice relections, position grad to darken sky, set the aperture for the DOF, then bracket your exposures to get one that is spot on. Just got to take your time and get it right thats all.

SO you're saying the positioning with the surrounding landscape just happened?

Or is it that that sort of background just works anyway so long as the geometric shapes are somewhere close to interesting?

Or is there more subconscious planning going on in your head that you don't really recognise to include in the technical description?

Whichever I think it is an excellent shot that exudes an air of gravitas for what it otherwise a fairly lunatic concept of a vehicle!

I think that Matt is far too modest. I was totally gob-smacked when I saw that first photograph. It is simply stunning. The background so perfectly frames the vehicle and the puddle is the perfect platform. The lighting is excellent and the attention to detail is quite remarkable.
