Motorola broken screen - All data lost?

My sons Motorola 31 has now got a broken screen, so can't unlock the phone.

Is there anyway I can retrieve some of his data? I've exhausted all my ideas:

1. Plug it in to laptop, doesn't work s I I can't unlock the phone.
2. Plug it into his new phone and transfer the data, but his new phone isn't recognised when I plug it in (again becuse its locked?), so thats a nope.
3. He does not have any form of cloud storage.

Is there anything else I can try?

I know it may cost more than the value of the phone (I have no idea what that model of phone is) - but if the data is important, can't you get the screen replaced?

Thanks, no its not overly important, just a few photos and come contacts. The screen replacement is the same price as a new phone, so I would rather buy a new phone.

Being Android, you might just be able to connect it up to a monitor. If you can't use the screen, then you'd probably also need a mouse to click the pin code.

So you'd need:

USB hub (About £8 on amazon)
USB-C to USB-A cable (assuming the hub is only USB-A) This will basically just be the charging cable (£0)
USB to HDMI adapter (About £10 on amazon)
USB Mouse. (Cheapest you can find, if you don't already have)
HDMI cable. You probably have one with the TV/Sky box/ whatever
Some type of monitor/TV - a TV with HDMI input would fine.

That should let you see the screen on the monitor, and the mouse will let you control it. I'm about 90% sure this should all work.

has he logged into his google account on a laptop

photo's are usually backed up to Google Photos, not sure about contacts but possibly available through whatsapp or social media accounts.

This will not help the OP but might help others.
On a long holiday my wife's old Samsung decided to die and even when we got home it would not turn on. Fortunately I had installed an SD card and set the phone to save everything to that. She had taken many pictures and at the time these were not backed up to Google photos (it was 2019)
Removed SD card and put it in new phone, all good, pics, contacts, everything was there

His contacts should be saved to the Google account he uses and therefore can be accessed anywhere by logging into that account

As long as you have it set to create the contact in the Google rather than locally on the device - then yes it should along with the photos as long as you've got them backing up to Google Photos
