Mrs S wants to change the tatty verticals blind in the bathroom for a roller blind. However she doesn't want one you have to wind up and down with a beaded string.

She wants one of the spring loaded ones that you pull down, but roll up automatically. A bit like the sort you get in railway carriages.

Had a lokk in B&Q but couldn't find any.

Are they still made or has the health and safety fairy spirited them away?

Can't see why there's a problem with them - I fitted one in the kitchen about 3 years ago.

More recently have gone for Venetian blinds though; a bit more modern looking IMO.

I have my own company manufacturing blinds to the trade.Do you mean the ratchet type that you tug to release and let up, or one that goes up slowly on its own? If its the latter, you won't find them in your local B&Q, it's a much more specialised product if you want the "decelerator" type, and probably a bit of overkill for a bathroom really in any case. ( Won't make any more comment on the quality of superstore blinds!) Try www.bbsa.org for your nearest outlet or ring them direct, number is on the website. If you get stuck, mail me via Pistonheads and I'll do a bit of homework for you.
P.S. Make sure the fabric is suitable for the damp of a bathroom, ("stayfresh" is one such treatment).

Thanks for that link

I now know the correct nomencalture!

It's actually the spring roller type blind I'm looking for and as yet I've only been able to find the friction roller type.
