Old Microsoft Surface - Swollen Battery - Disposal

Hi All,
I have an old Surface Pro 3, hasn't been used in a long time, I don't even know why I still have it to be honest..
Anyway, I noticed that the battery inside has swollen, pushing the screen off. I have now removed the SSD as I can reuse that, but I am unsure how to dispose of the surface itself.
It is now in a plastic box (I haven't got anything metal to put it in) outside of the house.
Googling the question gives quite vague answers. My local council tips take 'batteries' and 'waste electricals (WEEE)', which suggests they will take it, but I am concerned if I turn up with it that I will get turned away.
I've emailed the recycling team and awaiting a response. Just wondering in the meantime if anyone here has had similar and what route they went down?
