Can someone explain to me why they go to places like KFC, McDonalds etc?
Which part of the experience makes it seem like a good idea to repeat it?
Do you actually get any enjoyment out of it or is it just a case of getting sustenance?
I'm not a complete stranger to the fast food places, I do use them but over the years less and less. It's usually because I've needed to grab something and there's not been much if any choice.
I can't imagine that the crowds I see in them are all giving in the way I do occasionally.
Regarding price, I've never felt it's expensive considering they've got overheads to cover. You get a meal and drink for what wouldn't cover a starter in most places.

I have similar sentiments to Rufus about KFC.
McDonalds is somewhere I go much less these days but consistency is the word that leaps to mind.
I wouldn't suggest they're something you should eat often but whatever your thoughts on them I think they do the job and what you get there is almost certainly much more traceable than if you found yourself hungry somewhere and walked into some random place.

Yep. I find it's now bland, often greasier than a backstreet mechanic's hands, and the beans - which in the 90s were absolutely magnificent - are no better than some supermarket own brand beans with a squirt of equally cheap BBQ sauce stirred through.t too. It was always junk food by it was undeniably nice. It’s really dry now and the fillet burgers are nasty.If there is one near you, I recommend you try a Jolibee. Much more flavoursome than KFC.
@Pistom - As for why do people eat such food, because it is convenient and it is nice. Pizza, burger, fried chicken are all yummy. Yes we know they are not that good for you, life is about balances and would be boring as hell if we didn't have a few pleasures. No problem if you don't like such food, but most do (hence the popularity).

I really enjoy a KFC most of the time, but their stores can be quite inconsistent for a chain that’s supposed to be the same. (I do drive past one to get to another on one particular route). So KFC is about enjoyment eating something that is a faff to cook at home. Which part of the experience makes it seem like a good idea to repeat it?

McD’s it’s speed/convenience/consistent product.
I do like their coffees, cheaper than other chains & £3 gets you a toffee latte with a sausage & egg McMuffin included! (I think a McMuffin is a treat & genuinely look forward to it)
Agree in general it’s gotten a lot pricier to eat there without a promotion, which is one of the reasons I do now complain/provide feedback if I get a poor experience They’re pretty quick to issue a voucher
(I sound a right tight/miserable git there !)
Re the cost increase
Costs for Labour I believe are one of the big drivers for increased prices as well as the raw food stuff. Min wage jobs are comparatively much more expensive with rises in recent years. Going back 5 years there’s about a £4/hr difference say £5/hr with payroll burdens for each employee…. So how many staff in restaurant at a time 6? that alone is a 50p a minute increase, so how many minutes per order…
(The reason why so much is spent on apps & touch screens these days as otherwise it’s queues or other staff member)
If getting a takeaway for the family (3 adults, I don't have it), then KFC is the lowest cost option. 10 piece family feast, 10 pieces of chicken, 2 sides, 4 lots of chips, 1.5 litre bottle of diet pepsi comes in at £21. McDonalds for 3 is around £30, Chinese about £35, same for fish and chips, and Indian about £40.

Not just me then. I had one about a month ago and came out thinking it really wasn't that nice. It used to be an occasional treat for me to have one.
