I almost dread starting a thread like this, but will be interested in what people think

Having spent the last 6 years in the Porsche camp, I am contemplating a return to owning a Ferrari , either a 360 or a 430 - but only would consider a manual.

Having looked at what's about and in no rush, just how much would a manual 360 or F430 cost me , with sensible in the 30k miles.

I know sometimes people ask top £ , but thats not actually what they sell for...

I've owned both models before and enjoyed both , just wish I could have afforded to keep every one.

If you've owned both cars before you know what to expect. You can take a risk and buy from auction and potentially get a good deal, or private and pay more but no warranty, or go the dealer route and pay more still and have some kind of warranty (though depending where you go, some are not worth the paper they are written on).

Both cars have their pluses and minuses. I prefer the 360 design myself and it comes with the last incarnation of the Dino engine.

If you've looked around you'll know that a 430 manual is not a common option, so I'd imagine it'll be 40/50% more to buy than a 360, so does that answer your question as to which one to own ?

I must admit i am moving towards a move back to a 360…i always loved mine , and whilst they have their issues … i was always worried about the manifolds going on my 430 ….

I saw a red 360 the other day at rardley workshops and it did look lovely - which is more than can be said for my golf 😬😬

If you’re that worried about the manifolds on a 430 then just replace them with the Capristo ones. Job done!

But as others have said, if manual is a must then you’ve pretty much made the decision already…

You’ve already been there so you know.

But I started out looking for a manual 360 and ended up with a F430 F1. I was always happy with that choice.

But agree from the outside the 360 is looking quite classy these days.

I sort of still miss my 430, it has a rawness that the 458 doesn’t.

If I have owned both too and loved them although wouldn't dream of using them on a daily basis as I do with my current 911. In my view, the 430 was a little better in every respect and noticeably quicker. Has to be a manual as the F1 gearbox really dates them. This means paying up for a 430 but you stand chance of it at least holding its value being the last of the mid-engined manuals.

I quite agree about the f1 being dated . it is only a robotasized manual ….

Dare i mention …. verdi are offering a conversation.

Nothing beats an original factory manual though be it a 360 or a 430 .

Dated it may be but I know quite a few people say that it's easier to drive on the limit than the manual. Not saying it's 'wrong' of course, just the preference of some.

Had a 360 manual and although I never tracked the car I drove it how I would class as properly for the marque, 3rd gear synchro was knackered by 22k. Never done a synchro before or since and when I needed done there was no shock,ex Graypaul tech knew straight away and said it was the common one to go.

Doubt I'll ever own another Ferrari but would go for an F1 box after my experience.

A puzzling comment. Yes, it is a 'robotasized' manual derived from F1 technology at the time, I just don't understand the 'only' dig. It's what it was designed to be, a semi-automated manual. Why is that such a downside? It's not a DCT, it was never designed to be.

When you do have your conversation with Verdi do let us know how that goes. Lastly, plenty 'beats' a decades old manual supercar, you just make your own choices based on your preferences. One is not necessarily better than the other.

The metal click was quite satisfying and did make up for any change speed difference
