I would like to setup a website to document a project i'm undertaking. Initially I expect my requirements of the hosting environment will be limited, but i'd like the option of more advanced features should I so desire.

Also, whilst i'm quite technically minded, I have limited experience of developing websites. What handy apps./tools are out there?

If you drop me an e-mail I can set something up for you and guide you through it.

Alternatively take a look at www.register1.net

I personally use Textpad to code all my websites, it's essentially just a text editor but with syntax highlighting. When it comes to writing out large chunks of text, I use use WordPad and then copy it across into Frontpage - the output is good HTML rather than what you get if you use Frontpage or Word to do it. FrontPage is nice and easy to use assuming you're familiar with MS Office, Dreamweaver can be a pain in the butt if you aren't a fan of the Macromedia way of doing things (plus the code it produces isn't all that great IMHO), Adobe GoLive is the other major option

As for hosting, I use Register1, support has been fantastic & I (and many others) won't hesistate to recommend them, especially at the current price I'm even thinking of suggesting R1 to the company I've just started to work for!

Thanks Chaps.

With the VDS Pro we offer.. there are 17 different 'single click install' applications..

A few of these are Content Management Systems / Website Creation tools. (PHP Nuke, Post Nuke, Xoops etc) These allow for the simple and easy creation of content and feature rich sites, just by clicking a few buttons and adding some text.

There are also a One Step install Shop, Image Gallery, Forums, Support Ticket system, Blog..

Its designed to offer users who may not be as au fait with HTML / Design as they would like to be, the ability to get a decent site online with the minimum of fuss.

Just click the banner in the top right and have a look.

Let me know if you have any queries.

If it's super fast servers, with excellent support you're after, register1 is the choice.
Only just signed up, and made just about all the stupid mistakes I could......their suport corrected it, and sent me a nice email to let me know! Nice touch!
Can't recommend them highly enough.

Is it worth going for the pro package from R1?

depends if you want the simple "one-click-install" options and can afford the extra £50. I find the normal account (the £49.er) more than sufficent for my personal needs, although that would change should I start hosting a shop or something.

It was for me. The hosts I moved from gave me 2.5 Gb storage, and 20 Gig transfer for £9 a month (£108 a year). With register1 You get 2GB, and 100Gig for £99 a year. For less money, I get 5 times more transfer than I used to. If you sign for two years, you get the third free, bringing it down to £66 a year. The admin control panel is very functional, and if it looks like I need more storage/transfer, it's just a case of clicking a few buttons and away you go.
I'm sure it all depends on your needs, but upgrading at any time is not a problem.

I would also like to recommend Jamie from Register1.net.

I have a personal site with them, and I now use them for most of the sites I develop for clients too.

24 hour support, ultra fast servers, great tools, and amazing data limits considering the price.

I use Register1 as my hosting partner. I have nothing on my site apart from some galleries and lots of domains. The support is fantastic. I went for the top spec VDS Pro for 3 years, so I'm in it for the long haul!

Hi,

The short answer is no ;(

ASP.Net is a windows Technology, which means much higher setup / ongoing costs in a Hosting Environment.

We have done a few feasibility studies into offering Windows / ASP.net / MSSQL packages, but the pricing just wasn't viable given the low cost Dedicated Servers we're offering (From £49 pcm!)

There are a few places that offer ASP.net, muncher on these forums runs http://IP1Hosting.net.

We tend to find those clients who Do want it, simply take a Dedicated Server (click the banner for more details!)

Feel free to drop me a mail if you fancy a chat.
