VAG 1.0 Reliability
Discussion
My wife's 2019 Fabia SEL with the 3-cylinder 1.0 (110hp) & 6-speed manual has been trouble free for 30k miles.
I drive it occasionally as I have an auto & also like to drive a manual. Good torque low down (148 lb ft) for a 1.0, although I think 2nd gear is too high. A friend whose wife has the same engine & gearbox in a Polo agrees.

Thanks. Sounds positive. I was thinking of the 1.0 engine mated to an auto in the T-Cross. I assume that is the same ?
Do your research on the 7 speed dry clutch DSG DQ200 ( assuming that’s what is fitted) Sealed for ‘life’ and well known for problems if so.Are you referring to the problems in high temperature climates that was solved with a change of oil grade?

Hi All,
What is the relianbility of the VAG 1.0 engine like ?
I believe it is a 3 cylinder.
Are there any common problems with it I should be aware of ?
67,000 miles in my Up Gti, tuned to 150bhpWhat is the relianbility of the VAG 1.0 engine like ?

No issues. Apart from blown fuse when washer bottle froze, as mentioned earlier.
6 speed Manuel, obviously.
Runs as well today as the day I bought it on 5 miles.
Timing belt is now 100k miles or 150k kilometres in a non dusty country.
We had 1.0tsi Skoda se rapid spaceback great little shopping/tip car, unfortunately it got written off in December after 3 months of ownership.
Replaced it with a 1.0tsi Seat Arona 115ps cracking engine/economy however, it’s got a duff outer cv joint that will need replacing at some point pretty common on the 1.0tsi or so I’m told.

I stepped out of my Up! GTI last month having run it from 1k to a smidge under 80k miles in 5 years. Faultless mechanically, very efficient on longer journeys, just a shame how vulnerable the tyres were to the poorly maintained local roads.
Nice engine and transmission in stock trim. My dad loves the one in his Seat with DSG.
Hopefully I won't kick myself in the same way as I did after parting with my mk 2 golf GTi many years ago.

My mum has a fabia 1.0 dsg. As far as I’m aware no problems. Seems a fairly low hassle proposition.
I drove it to Stansted and back last year and it trundles along very nicely at “motorway speeds” while doing 50mpg.
Only issue is the dry clutch box that is really grabby in low speed manoeuvring. I think with a manual it’d be fab.
