I thought it was valuable at the time, but apparantly you can get it for as little as a tenner in some parts of the city.

Boring sensible answer:

I got my first Tag watch as a gift one christmas...I was stunned!

Also received a pair of ornate silver spoons from my parents for my 18th... Not quite the GTI I had hoped for but certainly shocked me. No idea how much they're worth (dated 1742).

Depends on the maker, condition, size etc.
Are the bowls of the sppons ornate? Or are the handles decorated?
If the bowls are decorated then they are probably what is called "berry spoons" which means the decoration was gone in the late 18/early 1900.
If the handles are decorated in whiat is called bright cut work then this could well be period for 1742.

The sppons should both have the same marks on the back of the handles, one indicating the year, one the maker, one for London and possibly one for the duty mark.
The makers mark will determine to some degree the value but you would expect that a pair of spoons like this could be around the £200 mark. Might be a lot more if they are by a particular maker.
