Gents,

Can anyone help, I have tried to start up my single phase compressor though it keeps blowing the 13a fuse, not even trying to start.

I was in a pickle so I put some foil around the fuse and it fired up though it was slow to turn over, struggled a bit and then tripped the fuse board.

Anyone offer any advice? I replaced the capacitors a few months back but they were cheap off Amazon?

Motor is free to turn by hand?

Cheers,

Ed

Is the unloader valve working properly, cleaned and assembled correctly?

I will check in the morning but I opened the drain valve when trying to get it going to see if I could get the motor to speed up but didn’t help

I am alright Jack

Sounds like what normalbloke said or faulty capacitor.

47 microfarad capacitor on side of motor. Change that.
At least see if it's a 47 but will be close to that

It’s a 25uf capacitor, I can get the motor to run under no load but as soon as I bolt the compressor back on it blows the fuse.

I have checked the valves etc all seems ok.

The compressor feels free to turn, going to order another capacitor and try again,

I am running off a 13a plug but it worked fine before I moved home?

Cheers,

Ed

If it worked fine before you moved it could be something as simple as the socket you're plugging it into is at the end of a long run or has a lot of things plugged into it or you're using a long thin extension cable & the voltage drop means there's not enough to kick the compressor over.
Met this from time to time when SMART repairing at people's houses.

I had this, had worked for years same socket & extension cable, I'd put more lights on the same circuit & it kept being really sluggish to start, then just wouldn't start & kept blowing fuses.

Swapped to another plug socket with no other things on the circuit, problem fixed.
