I've searched and swapped minds on what our next car will be too many times now so need suggestions.
Currently driving a I30N 2019. Great car, but now edging towards something a little more premium. Looking at past habits we tend to go between suv and hatchbacks.

Soo must be 4+seats, under 4.5m, good turning circle and have a decent pace.
Had a look at a Merc GLA35, approved used so 2yr warranty but finding out about headgasket failures is really putting me off (plan to keep it 3yrs).
RSQ3 2020 seem to be £38-42k for a sport, so kind of out of my price range even though the wife wants one.
Q4 etron was a contender of a short while, but don't really fancy electric yet and seemed a too safe bet.

The size requirement really puts a lot of the higher bhp cars off the list. C43 coupe would be lovely tbh.

Is the 4.5m a hard limit?

Premium, comfortable, good pace and handling screams Porsche Macan, but they're 4.7m

(btw the RSQ3 is 6mm over your limit smile

Will check the formentor out. Interior does look nice and the ea888.4 engine should be worry free.

Can be a bit tricky getting off our drive. Mostly it's ok but at night when raining, can be more guesswork 😂. I say 4.5m because we had a tiguan before which was fine but we've lost more space since because a neighbour decided to move all their bins close by (apart from inside their garage tbh there's no real room to put them).

X3 M40i, albeit it's 4.7m long but this and the Macan would be the first cars I'd go and have a poke around.

Porsche Macan GTS. Best driving small suv that exists apparently. I just got a 2017 model last week and it does drive very well indeed

I bought a Porsche Macan Turbo with the performance package around that price a few weeks ago and am delighted with it.

440bhp, GTS suspension, bigger brakes, 0-60 in 3.6 seconds and it handles very well around corners for a nearly 2 tonne car.

Mine’s very highly specced and is a very comfortable place to bumble around town in, but it still embarrasses most other vehicles on a motorway slip road.

You’ve obviously never driven a Macan Turbo PP: better than the GTS is every measurable way, although I’m not in any way slagging off the GTS as it’s still a very good car.

True but the OP can also decide if the 4.5m rule is a strict one because a GLC is only 1.6cm over 4.5m.

Agreed, but the GLC is 16cm over his 4.5m rule. Only the OP will know if that much matters.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone.
Just been for a test drive in a Gla45 that's just about in budget.
Quite liking it, nice interior, quite suttle looks (it's without the big wing), the bucket seats were slightly firm but still comfy.
Never owned a Mercedes so will take the wife for another drive tomorrow.
