Some of you may know who i'm talking about here! Sammy Miller was the owner and driver of the fastest accelerating veichle on the planet, the Vanishing Point Rocket powered funny car!
Sammy was sadly killed 2 days ago whilst working in an oilfield in Texas for his company.
In 1984 Sammy put in the worlds quickest ever 1/4 mile pass at Santa Pod Raceway. His unbelievable time of 3.58 secs at over 380 MPH is still unbeaten today!
The news of his untimely death comes as sad news to anyone who ever had the pleasure of meeting him or seeing him in action!

Is that the same Sammy Miller who rode trials and has a museum in the New Forest??

If it is then he wil be sadly missed, I met him a couple of times in my Trialing days and he was a thoroughly nice chap!

May he Rest In Peace!!!!!!!!!!!!

A bad week for drag racing, John Lingenfelter smashed himself up pretty badly in his 6 second Cavalier this week.

I was really looking forward to seeing Sammy run next year, I was only five years old when he set that record! Hopeully another heroic loony will step into his shoes at some point, I'm pretty sure he wouldn't want his record to stand for too long!

Really sad to hear that, I was racing at the pod the very day he did that run in Vanishing Point. Couple of pics below.

That's the Sammy Miller I thought of too. He was a good friend of my Dad's - another Hants and Dorset trials riding contemporary...

Ah, well ok then may the other Sammy Rest In Peace!

Cor more than one famous Sammy Miller, what are the odds of that happening! Quite high as the case may be!

Saw him that weekend but had to leave before he put in the fast run. Mad guys with balls of steel. Sad news indeed.

I only posted the other day that I was looking forward to his new car running next year as he had retired Vanishing Point after running at the pod at Easter.

Very sad news indeed.

There is a video of one of his runs here.
