I visited my local Tesco a couple of hours ago and the soft fruit section, which includes Grapes, Raspberries, Strawberries etc was completely empty.

Notices of a worldwide shortage were present.

Is this likely to be connected with the Spanish flooding? I read a report a little while ago which stated that several thousand Hectares of Greenhouses had been destroyed and presumably these Greenhouses would have been used for soft fruit.

I'm still surprised when seeing empty shelves in supermarkets still. Pre-pandemic it was unheard of, post-pandemic I see it a lot, whether it be empty fruit/veg shelves or otherwise.

I placed an online order with Tesco earlier and there were no fresh peppers available at all, which I thought was unusual. Fruit seemed mostly fine though

I know someone who is involved with checking fruit, veg and flowers that come into the country. We were chatting this very topic. There are definitely supply chain issues with stuff coming in. I guess that's what happens when there are problems abroad and we want to eat the same old stuff all year round.

I'm finding the same with my local Asda (shop there because it's 2 mins from my house) when I go on a Friday evening or even Saturday.

I have found that there is a car boot sale local to me where a fruit and veg man sets up every Sunday morning and he is both far cheaper than a supermarket and the quality is significantly better so I now go to him for my supplies, and the added bonus is there's a decent cafe on site for a Sunday morning breakfast

I was in Spain last week and there were items on the radio stating that due to the flooding in Valencia and elsewhere, there would be a shortage of fruit and veg.

The area that took the hit is mainly leafy greens and veg from what I understand (from a friend in the industry) - our local Tesco has no shortages, at the moment at least - expected impact on the supply chain around Christmas / New Year

Most of the fruit lately is rubbish at Tesco anyway.

Buying red grapes, and they are half green.

They even put a little sticker on them saying they might not look good but still taste great :S

That could be down to the variety

They look like the same red grapes that I've always bought from them with the same packaging, they were fully red and didn't have that sticker about their looks on them previously so maybe have changed the variety or where they source them from.

the variety and source frequently change, waitrose, at least, list the origin and variety and often have 'red grapes' if you can be bothered for the same price, same name, but different country of origin and variety on them i'm sure tesco must too (they did on strawberrys in the summer)
