ECU/ECM Testing and Repair
Discussion
Hey,
My garage has narrowed down a fault I have with starting to being a suspected ECM issue, so wants to send it off to get tested/repaired. He's just messaged saying the two places he usually uses have gone under so I thought I'd ask on here if anyone recommends a place to send ECMs??
Cheers

ECU Doctor, BBA Reman and no doubt others.
ECU faults are not common though, all too often garages blame ecu's, through a lack of ability to diagnose faults.
Generally blaming the ecu, would be maybe not a last option, but getting well down the list.
Of course whether something can be repaired, depends on the perceived fault.

I’ve used ECU testing many times.
Sweet thanks! The most reliable repairer did close around a year ago, through lack of options I can rely on my default now is to get another unit and clone it to prove/fix the fault.
Update: I had it sent to "ECU testing" who said they could do the work needed, and recognised the fault being displayed as common. However they returned the ECU 3 days later saying the it was "untestable" and on further questioning they didn't have the software to test it for whatever reason.
Anyway having done a bit of research it seems the whole practice of ECU repair is a little untrusted and not that great. So I have bought a replacement ECU from eBay, and will be getting it coded in at RS tuning in Leeds. Tempted by a remap while I'm in there... haha.

DON'T!!!!!!!!One thing at a time, get it you NEED to get it running as it should be before even attempting a remap or you will spend the next months/years chasing your own arseh0le to get it back to where you should have started.

I mean I'm obviously not going to have them code the ECU, realise it hasn't fixed my problem, but get them to remap it anyway! One thing at a time, get it you NEED to get it running as it should be before even attempting a remap or you will spend the next months/years chasing your own arseh0le to get it back to where you should have started.
