Wisdom please :) - Bike servicing parts
Discussion
Hi there,
I have the mechanical skills of a wet trout when it comes to servicing motorcycles, but I have a mechanic friend who is going to service it while I am there so I can learn.
So for a major service what do I need to buy in terms of parts?
I am guessing -
Oil
Filter
Brakepads if required.
Also the bike has been standing for a long time, is there anything I need to pay special attention to?
Many thanks

If the service schedule says it's due plugs and an air filter, for example, then you'll obviously need to order those but everything else would be based on examination of the bike and impossible for us to say that you should just order them in. If the bike's been standing for years then the tyres may be goosed but it's not very likely unless it's been stood for a hell of a long time. If it's stood in damp condition then potentially the air filter could do with replacing if it's a paper one and if it's a foam one then it may need cleaning and reoiling. Check the chain for tight spots and give it a good lube, check the sprockets, check the shock and forks for leaks and make sure they still damp, check the wheel bearings and the head race bearings. Check the operation of the brakes, the clutch and the acc cable etc etc. You'll then know what parts you need.
Yes - I have done this but I am also posting to make sure I havent missed anything partswise...
