£5-7k Estate recommendations

Current 'daily' is a mk1 Volvo XC90 200bhp D5 with the later 6spd auto box. This was bought for weekend use and towing duties as at the time I had no commute. I have now moved house with a 20min commute to work plus also now have a van that I will use for towing duties.
Decided that I want to replace the barge like XC90 with something more driver focused, nimble with a reasonable turn of pace. The list of must haves:
- Petrol
- Estate (enough room for the dog in the boot)
- Manual gearbox
- 200bhp+ and 30+mpg on a run
My one and only choice at the moment is a BMW E91 330i msport touring, but they seem to be like rocking horse sh!t with a manual gearbox.
What else should I be looking at with the budget of £5-7k that will be equally adept with the commute and going for a weekend blast?
