Too much tailwind?

I see the weather is a bit breezy this weekend and I'm thinking it could make for a novel ride if one is heading northish, but I'm wondering if you can have too much of a good thing. At what point does a gusty/strong tailwind get a bit treacherous? Forecast is ~35mph with ~55mph gusts.
I guess unpredictable gusts and general detritus in the roads might pose a risk, and the possibility of excessive speeds.

No such thing as too windy when it's directly behind you (ok, unless it's a hurricane), it's the crosswinds that are dangerous, particularly with deeper wheels especially older style slab-sided rims.
Doing 40mph or so on the flat is a lot of fun.

Did 50 miles but the wind didn't live up to the hype. Pleasant support, but not the speed nor gusts I was promised.

The worst were the excessively timid drivers who won't pass when there is ample opportunity if they just get on with it, causing queues which will no doubt be blamed on the bloody stereotypical cyclist.
