This claim was £8600 on an Audi Q7 diesel. Damage was caused by my named driver while the Audi was parked. My car had £250 of paintwork and is fine. Am I going to suffer higher insurance costs as a result of the claim being wildly inflated? How is this not fraud?

Don't know about your claim, but my little claim for a van rear ending my Mercedes came out as follows:

Accident Damage Repair £3,200
Physio on my back after the whiplash £3,000 (the insurance company instructed a Mickey Mouse snake oil physio. I went to a proper one and was sorted in 4 visits).
Hire Car for 3 weeks £3,780
Legal bills £6,400

Total £16,380

And the guy who hit me wanted to settle it privately!

Will my premiums go up even though it wasn't my fault? Almost certainly. furious

The car hire for my sisters accident was over £23k due to shortage of parts.

My (Swiss city) insurer paid out £7300 to this nutter who drove into by back corner on a roundabout. I complained but they justified it as mitigating the credit hire costs. My scrape polished out for £0. No injury claim.

Difficult to tell completely but the damage in the photo looks to be mostly a massive scuff, with the other car depositing it’s paint.

For once the ‘that will polish out’ joke might be largely correct.

There's a mark on the tyre, maybe the wheel too so whoever did the estimate probably included a suspension geometry check, allowed for a wheel and tyre and anything else they could think off to get to that sort of number.

My BMW 330i got a tap in the rear last year resulting in a couple of scuffs and small cracks in the rear bumper cover that BMW could supply in primer for £650.

Took it to the bodyshop recommended by the insurer of the driver who hit me and they had padded up their estimate to over £2K allowing for potential damage behind the bumper cover (unlikely as the parking sensors still worked), blending paint into the boot lid and rear wings, etc.

So now it's a Cat N. banghead
