48 Hours Odd in San Francisco
Discussion
Any dab hands at San Francisco here? I am stay there for a 48 hours and 24 hours book ended of a week for work in Las Vegas.
Apart from the obvious attractions does anyone have any recommendations on places to eat or things to see? I want to try and keep it relaxed as possible as the Vegas week is going to be absolutely manic.
The only thing I have my list so far is the Swan Oyster Depot.
Thanks in Advance!

Going up the Coit Tower (modelled on a fire hose nozzle) is very "San Francisco". You'll have a nice view from the top to take in the sights. Walking the Golden Gate Bridge might also be gently entertaining, again an SF classic. Ride a cable car, of course, and somewhere in town there's the winding house where all the cables are powered from one engine room. Visit Alcatraz Prison if you get the urge for a boat ride etc but it would soak up a lot of a short stay. The famous zig-zag road, Lombard Street, seen in many old movies will probably be packed with tourists and it's certainly one to visit on foot rather than by car.
I'd recommend Alcatraz. It's a nice little boat ride then a really great island to roam around and discover all the bits of it. Loads of history and a really good audio tour. SF is very hit and miss generally, but Alcatraz is definitely the best bit. Walk over the Golden Gate as well, but take a coat

I would 2nd Alcatraz, if you know the dates you will be in SF then book tickets now!! They sell out fast, I did a night tour
Coit Tower's where we started, got there via a cable car from Downtown & then walked up to the tower and down to Pier 39 for the Sea Lions - they were good, the rest of Pier 39 was tourist trap. Got a regular bus from there to the Golden Gate.
If your interested in art & architecture SF's Museum of Modern Art's very good & Vaillancourt Fountain at Embarcadero Plaza is a large modernist piece that you can have a quick walk through. Hyatt Regency's opposite & has a very cool lobby. Painted Ladies interesting & worth a quick stop if your going to Haight Ashbury.

Rent an electric bike (lots of hills in SF) from Blazing Saddles near the Embarcadero and ride up to and across the Golden Gate Bridge then down to Sausalito for lunch. Hop on the ferry (with the bike) back to Fishermans Wharf.
If you go to Alcatraz, go early and book tickets on line as it gets very busy and sells out quickly.

Thanks for some of the responses guys, all good to know. I have booked onto Alcatraz first thing on Friday morning as it looks sunny at the moment, and it was the only time left anyway.
