Hi,

I was looking for some advice. I'm going to look at this CC on Thursday and give It test drive. Is there anything I should be looking out for?

Thanks,

Jamie

I've had 2 of these, both totally reliable. Had a manual lower powered diesel and a dsg higher powered one. As long as they have been serviced and cambelt and pump done, there should be no issues. I found the dsg and bigger turbo engine drove much better and suited the car well. The sat nav on the age you are looking at is woeful but can be replaced for not much and easily with an RCD 330 which brings them more up to date. If you can find a car with DCC suspension I highly recommend that, made it a far more relaxed cruiser. I'd probably still have mine but lower mileage job on a dpf diesel saw me back to a petrol car.

Check *when* the belt and water pump were done. Not very reassuring if that was five years ago.

Other than that, good cars.

Looks a straight car.

Do a HPI check (Car Vertical seem to be comprehensive and discount codes available through various Youtubers).
As above check when belts etc were done.

Proven engines.
Looks a decent spec.
Should do stupid MPG

No idea if the price is fair.
Dealers seem to be pretty fixed on price these days.

Yeah from what I have read they seem pretty reliable and good sturdy cars. Aye when I seen sat nav on photo, it looks a bit dated so could change that. I'll see what's what on Thursday when I go take a look at it. I'm taking a relative whos good with cars, so they can help suss anything out

100k mile intervals now on VW’s. No 4/5 year intervals.

Is that the case on all of them? When looking for my current car, a dealer told me it was from 65 plate onwards, not before.

I didn’t think there was a date, it was just to bring inline with the rest of Europe. I’m sure the last of the UP! are set to 180k miles.

I'm not sure I'd have faith in a 180k Cambelt.

Anyway, VW water pumps are made of cheese, and a pain in the arse when they go. I'd treat them as consumable items with a more frequent cambelt change. As ever, YMMV.
