Gooday all
Looking to change up from my stage 2 135i
And looking at either an f10 m5 or and m140i
Budget for both is between 15-20k
I was also looking at both a c63 6.2 or and e92 m3
As a daily able tuner car which would be a better option
No such thing as a cheap M5, they are a massive money pit as they age, unless you have the purchase price again as a slush fund I would leave well alone. Looking to change up from my stage 2 135i

M140i, more robust, but spend your money on handling, suspension and an LSD before adding any more power, so many of them running 500 bhp on standard kit that's below par for the standard output.
I'd somewhat disagree with the above, as the F10 M5's (LCi) were fairly bullet proof & that engine has basically gone on to power the F90 & G90.
That's not to say stuff can't or won't go wrong.
I wound my 2nd F10 M5 up to Stage 2, so basically 750bhp, which was a giggle, however somewhat tricky to handle being RWD in the Winter months.
Due to size/luxury etc. the M5 is a totally different proposition to any 1 Series (Junior M or not).
Currently goofing around in a new G87 M2 & that's the most fun proper M i've ever owned
(that doesn't mean best, just most fun).

The M140 won't be in the same league as a standard M5 not even after tuning.Looking to change up from my stage 2 135i

The E63 would get the nod over both of those, the 5.5 is bulletproof & very tuneable:

E500 coupe is a bit of a sleeper & under budget but it's not an AMG/M car:

I had a 6.2 c63 and now an M140, very different cars imo.
C63 a great daily, fantastic engine, fantastic sound, an event just burbling around town, but it’s no B road twisties fun car.
I swapped to an M140 as I wanted to get back into doing some track days. C63 is a quick car but doesn’t really feel it, when I picked up the M140 I thought it had been remapped as it felt much faster than 330bhp should. They are quite light and short ratio gears in the 8 speed auto.
Mines now heavily modified, Bilstein coilovers, LSD, 500bhp amongst other things and it’s a rather fast car. Been much faster on track than much more expensive stuff like Cayman GT4s etc (I’m bout £25k all in including mods) but is still my daily and used for some good 300+ mile trips with the mrs and dog to see family and returns over 40mpg on a motorway cruise, never saw above 28 in the c63 and averaged 12!
Iv had a few plays with F90 M5’s and they’re pretty much identical once rolling, launching from standstill the M5 be gone. I managed 173mph in my 140 on a runway top speed run.
I have itchy feet at the moment as I’d like to try something light weight like an S2 exige and would probably buy another C63 estate for the daily duties.
