I know a lot of you guys have multi fuel stoves so thought id ask.
My dad burns coal at the moment but the prices seem to be forever going up, its currently £650 a Tonne and hes not willing to pay for it anymore so when this current load is gone i think that will be it.
Wood is probably out of the question, it used to munch through it at an alarming rate.
He only has a small house so its fairly easy to heat really, i just wondered are there any alternatives to consider. Im not that clued up on the smokeless stuff.

We have an inset stove and open fire. Tried most fuels but find this brand best for us. Long lasting and give out great heat.

i recently bought a tonne of stove fuel from a place called coal hut and it was delivered for around 450 quid they will only deliver to roadside and drop it on a pallet. might not work for everyone but it did for me. you can also buy smaller amounts but a tonne is cheapest option.

This is £430 delivered to mainland uk, a mate is currently burning it and rated it well. You will do well to find it cheaper. £220 cheaper than you are paying now.

£400 delivered. Ordered a couple of tons for my folks last year and they were happy with it so giving it a go myself.

We use these alongside 'proper' logs, and they're really good. They light well, burn well, fairly slowly, and leave little ash.

People still burn coal??

Surely get an ASHP installed, on a monthly deal if needed?!

Probably need a coal fire to top up the weedy heat from the ludicrously expensive and unsuitable-for-many-houses ASHP...!

And if the pallet wood is treated, then you can poison yourself while it burns.

Most are heat treated not chemical apart from the coloured ones. And no the nails don't explode, seems to be a internet myth.

I've had no issues burning any kind of wood in my burner.
Nails, screws, the occasional bracket and hinge. Just pick them out of the ash when cool.

Agreed; the pallets I've sent up the chimney were held together with annular nails which you couldn't pull out even if you wanted to. The wood was very dry and made good kindling.
