Heat Pump - essential?

As best I can gather the heat pump is useful if the car is doing a lot of short journeys and having to reheat from cold - like, say, a home care worker might do.
Or for adding a bit to the ultimate range on long journeys, although one of the magazines did a comparison and there wasn’t very much difference.

If it was cheap, then fair enough - but what makes you choose this over a Kia Niro at the same price, or an ID4?

That seems quite a lot, seeing as the mini-split AC unit fitted to our loft conversion can cool or heat a room several times the volume of a car whilst cosuming (according to the rating plate on the outdoor unit) an maximum of about 2kW electricity.Not a big deal, based on two years with a car without one. Except maybe in the homecare/similar use case Sheepshanks mentioned.
You can drop the power draw from the typical 2.5kW to around 1 pretty easily (slightly lower temperature, recirculating air, etc). The long-term average consumption is roughly the same (mostly long road trips). Less, if you can use just the seat and steering wheel heater to stay warm.
