Car trouble means I need to source an alternative for the Mrs to use whilst I get the fix sorted and then sell again
4 door
safe
hatchback or saloon but needs to be big enough for a pram in the boot
petrol or diesel
anything reliable and simple to have/maintain
welcome the leftfield choices as always

Honda Civic or Jazz - can always sell a Jazz on easily especially where I live on the South Coast...
Assuming the underside of the car isn't covered in holes due to corrosion.I know Hondas get recommended a lot on these sort of threads, but in my experience they are the rustiest cars out there.

My neighbour has a 12 year old Toyota Yaris, which he's had from new, has it serviced annually and it's just ticked over to 15,000 miles.... I've told him to let me know when he gives up driving (he's 88) as I'll buy it off him, it gets brought out from the garage on a Saturday morning and then tucked away a couple of hours later... only slight negative is its colour, gold...

When I had the same brief, while renovating a house, I bought a Skoda Octavia.. I liked it so much I kept it for four years
We've done similar with one of the Civics posted above. I keep getting told it's about to dissolve into a pile of reddy brown powder, but it's just made it through MOT number 3 with no advisories. Selling my wife’s 2009 Kia Cee’d, good service history, 75k miles roughly, MOT until September 2025. We’ve had two prams in the boot. 1.6 petrol.
Does have some bodywork scrapes, drivers side rear arch in particular where it’s been scraped along a brick wall.
But good car never let us down proper workhorse.
