I only have one key for my K5 GSXR 1000 which contains the transponder chip in it. I am mindful that should I lose the key (which I nearly did last week), I would be in a very difficult position. Could someone advise on the best solution to get a new key cut using my original with the transponder information copied to the new key?

I know I can buy blank Suzuki keys but not sure if they have a transponder chip in them or not.

I don't know if they can help? It's one of those websites that wants your reg. number and contact details.

https://www.carkeyssolutions.co.uk/suzuki-motorcyc...

I've no idea why they used an image of an orange framed, orange wheeled KTM.

Have you already tried the car key programmers?

If so you may need to go to a Suzuki dealer with your v5 and some ID.

If you are looking to save a few quid you might be able to get a secondhand key and program it yourself. YouTube suggests you can add one key this way. It’s obviously a punt though so I wouldn’t spend too much on the key.

No not tried the car key programmers yet, but I will start asking some soon. I am not too worried about the money, as long as I can get the job done properly from a reputable company then that's all that matters. I have owned the bike for 11 years now, and plan to keep it forever, so a spare key will be for my own piece of mind.

Timpsons may be able to clone your existing transponder key and cut another blank.

They did my old Triumph Tiger 800 for a back up key for a road trip.

It unlocked the steering lock and turned on the lights. That was it.

Also put an apple tag on the keys as it’s easy to lose bike keys. You can track the tag from a phone to locate the key and make it ring when close etc. I have about 15 of the things on various items now.

My local key cutting place cloned a Vespa master key for me. I continued to use the cloned key until I got rid of the bike.

The blank key and transponder chip was about 15 quid off eBay and I bunged the key cutting place 20 quid as it was off the books.

Much cheaper than a new ECU if I'd lost the master.
