Couldn’t find anything recent covering all things alpine, snow, winter etc.

For those that are interested Mikaela Shiffrin is racing Slalom in Killington over the next two days. She’s at 99 World Cup wins, going for the century, which is a ridiculous achievement IMHO. First run at 15:00, second at 18:00. Same tomorrow.

In my book, the greatest skier of all time.

Dave Ryding has continued his form with a 16th in Slalom at Levi and 7th at Gurgl. He’s 8th in the standings at the moment.

The IBU Biathlon season is kicking off over the next 8 days too at Kontiolahti.

Watched the Biathalon relays over the weekend.
Norway has been downed!
MiL is an avid fan of biathalon and as I’m now a temporary Finn, I was delighted to see the chaps get a really good placing in the men’s relay.

Absolutely horrible seeing the place green, brown and grey though frown I’ve been teasing my colleagues in Helsinki that we have already had a good snowing and they are lagging behind for the last cpl of weeks.

Les Arcs had a decent dump the other day.
More due this week, we don’t head out until March so hoping the season will build nicely!

Yep, France very strong, although what a chase by Soerum.

Nasty fall for Shiffrin. She seems ok, but it'll be a few weeks before she's able to go for 100 again.

I tell a story about my time living out in CH, doing bobsleigh and the winter season trajectory. Everybody looks Greek God awesome in November and Dec. Training has been done, everybody raring to go into the season of what flavour of throwing themselves down a hill they enjoy.
By April, the Greek body physiques still exists, but nobody is walking properly, almost everybody is banged up to some extent and the amount of surgical boots and casts you see is comical.
I’ve never walked properly since I left CH.

Ha!
I can believe it!
We have the advantage of not starting until our 40s, scared of many runs so we take it easy….

But….we do love watching the pros on TV…just pretending it is how we look 🤪

I can’t DO many runs now Mike smile
For say a 7 day holiday, I will take a max 5 day pass out. A bad yr for me means I use a walking stick for 1-2 months of the yr, so I have to really be careful with the ankles and knees now.

I think this yr will be the first in maybe 3 yrs I haven’t had to use a stick.

Not exactly brilliant for 48 frown

I've been amazed at 40 year old Lindsay Vonn's return to the sport after 6 years away.

She's finishing in the top 5 and could have won the latest Super G with a little more luck with the weather!

My initial thought on hearing she was coming back was a) why? and b) I hope she doesn't injure herself, but it's more like she's missed a couple of races with an injury than been retired for 6 years!

Amazing performance at an age when few skiiers (male or female) are still racing!

AIUI, her knee surgery (x2?) have effectively left her pain free. Having discovered that, she then began to wonder whether she could compete again.

A lot of work to get back to race fitness, and perhaps unsurprisingly she’s back on pace having always been so good.

There are a lot of other things that can get injured however, including the knees again. Ask Schiffrin. So whether this can be sustained must be a question. Great to see though.
