Interesting way to tow it - i.e. not using the built in tow hook - it looks more secure.
So briefly, what happened?

tow hook may have been damaged in the shunt. So may the rear wheel suspension and wishbones which is why I'd not have had him do it that way. It looks like the strap is going through the wheels and acrss under the clam. It could well have ripped an already damaged wheel / quarter away.
Poor bloke.
I know how he feels;

Well , this has taken quite a while to surface ! The car was mine and it happened in October 2003, I didn't get it back until Christmas eve.It had been raining very heavily all day and conditions were really miserable. Sometime in the afternoon it stopped and the track started drying out. I was getting a bit fed up just tootling round so when approaching Druids, it looked dry enough to give it some beans. Big mistake as the surface was still covered with very damp leaves( plenty of trees at that part of the track ), the back end snapped round onto the grass and the car simply careered backwards into the armco on the inside. There were quite a few prangs that day , at about the time that photo was being taken a BMW barrel rolled at the start of the pit straight. I drove the car home , albeit without lights- testament to how stong this car is because I whacked the barrier pretty hard. The eventual bill? £12k! I didn't know they charged for the armco but I didn't have to pay.

If you don't crash now and then you're not trying hard enough!

Martin.
Can't say I agree either. Its a trackday, not a race!
And I understand the first rule of racing is to stay on the black stuff and finish.

Or that's my excuse.
You can feel the limit before crossing it as long as you approach slowly and within your ability
I never understand why people are so casual about losing control on track days - the penalty for failure can be immense![quote]You can't drive at the limit of you don't know where it is, and if you don't know where it is you may need to pass it to find out

If you want to try stepping over the limit of your car, try it on an airfield track day. Lot's of run off, and you'll get to see how it feels to step over the line.
Although I'd have to say the M12 is a wonderfully balanced car, and it is very verbose close to the limit (in other words it talks to you).

where there is grass or gravel, rather than Armco.
