I haven't owned one but took out a M1000xr in the summer, I own an RSV4 and the performance did not feel like much of a downgrade in someways it felt more shocking because you're upright and not in a superbike frame of mind. It was quite tall though (taller than an active ride height GS), and the bars are wide and high up like an adventure bikes which I didnt like (I know thats the point but I think lower bars would suit it more) I didnt have as much confidence throwing it in to corners because of that. If it's hip ache because of the pegs have you tried a panigale V4? I thought that was the most comfortable superbike I've ridden.
Yeah I was surprised, that was a '23 model btw I think they might have changed the pegs on the newest version. I didn't find the s1000rr especially comfortable despite what everyone says about them although it is a bit better than the rsv4. From memory the m1000xr pegs didn't seem especially low to me either.
For something with a bit more space then the three I'd suggest you look at are the KTM SD1290GT, the Hayabusa and the Kawasaki H2 SX SE. All offer near superbike performance but in a package that is likely to be more comfortable. I found both the Kawasaki and the KTM to be better and more comfortable than the S1000XR.
OP, are you doing regular exercise?
Might b worth seeing a physio, as well as starting pilates. I had a lot of issue with my lower back, hips and legs due to issues of a slipped disc. Once the root cause had been addressed, further and regular physio and key exercises / stretches sorted everything out. Changinv the bike might feel more comfrotbale but if the issue progresses then it might come back.
At the time I was riding a yamaha FZ1, so not exactly a torture rack of a riding position.
Sort yourself, keep the S1000RR!
