Is the job of the W1 and F80 to sell Arturas and 296es?
Discussion
There seems to be a consensus that the latest generation of McLaren and Ferrari hyper cars are a disappointment. The W1 is too generic McLaren and the F80 too V6.
For drama McLaren has the Solus (hmm, no Lazante road version – yet), and Ferrari the SF90 XX, so the job of the W1 and F80 is to be a halo model. There has to be an obvious link between the unobtanium and the volume sellers. This means the manufacturers don’t have a free hand to build an ultimate hyper car in the mould of the T.50 or Utopia.
The 288 pulled off being a 308 that had been to supermodel school, as did the P1, but there were no other McLarens to sell when we had the F1 and the F40 didn’t seem to have to share too much.
it just seems that this time around they are faced with poor sales of their V6 models, and so the halo cars have been brought in to rescue them.
Porsche clearly didn't look to the Mission X to save the Taycan.

So why not stick a V12 in?
Why bother? If you can rehash whats kicking around the parts bin, turn the boost up and make a bigger power figure that's all you need to get the money from your customers.
Ferrari don't need to invest in the F140 V12 anymore, its served its 20 odd year tenure and is about at its limit. The modern customer isn't wedded to the V12 they just want boosty power.
