I'll grant you that £39 for an 8 incher is a bit steep!

Why bother? Balsam Hill realistic christmas trees cost £250-400.

To be fair if you live in London, both about as far from where trees are grown and a pain to get stock into, they seem rather good prices.

Those prices don't seem too bad for London in 2024. They're not dramatically cheaper elsewhere.

for 40 years I wouldn't touch a fake christmas tree, but the wife made me get one about 5 years ago and I would never look back !

Expensive in the first year but its still looking good 5 years on, and more importantly, doesn't smell like cats piss after 4 weeks with central heating.

When I read the thread title I was expecting worse, surely someone will top this. I still don't fancy paying those prices tho

Balsam Hill is pretty much as good as you can get if you want artificial, but many people just prefer a real tree. Myself included.

For me it's fact you don't have to fk about with lights. 10 mins and the tree is up, lit, and ready for baubling.

Always had real then got a Balsam a few years back. Worth every penny for the lack of hassle.

That said, do miss the pine smell.

Sometimes the hassle is worth it.

Sometimes the hassle is all part of the fun.

It's like actual roast potatoes vs Aunt Bessie's, an NA V8 vs piped-in sound, etc etc.

Surely that’s wholesale? I’ve not seen prices like that in the south east area since the 90s.

Just put my real tree up, personally I have no interest in a plastic imitation one.
Cost £20 from Homebase for a 6ft non drop spruce.

Par for the course.

Round here people just steal them from the woods.

Nope. I was equally surprised. The farm jumped on the pumpkin picking bandwagon for a stupidly low price also. 20p for small up to £1.50 each for the largest - and they are actually grown where they sit, and not bought in Bookers and laid on a bed of hay like some places biggrin

Funnily enough, having recently seen what their local competition are charging, I did think how easy it would be to buy a load to move on.
