Hyundai i30 estate, smoke problem
Discussion
Hi, Hyundai i30 estate 2014 plate with 253k on the clock has heavy smoke problem, it gives a smell aswell, oil and filter changed, with engine flush but problem does not go away. It seems over the years sludge as built up and will not clear any ideas on how to fix this other than scrap the car, another mechanic says it maybe be turbo or valves worn over the time so needs new engine.
Car is diesel engine, it burns more diesel than normal, otherwise drives normal, doesn't loose power.

What colour smoke & smell of what?trickywoo said:
It’s likely economically done at that mileage and smoking.
I would get rid now but if you do keep driving it have a plan how you would deal with a runaway engine burning it’s engine oil.
It's not possible to drive it due to too much smoke. I can either scrap it, change engine so I wanted to know if it's fixible if I use Stop Smoke additive or sludge removal, I am assuming it's possible sludge has built up inside the engine and once cleaned it may fix it, during service the oil was sludge dark and filter had alot of sludge. Not sure if that's normal. Thank you for reply I would get rid now but if you do keep driving it have a plan how you would deal with a runaway engine burning it’s engine oil.

Sludge will be in the sump and maybe sat around in the top of the cylinder head. I doubt any of it will cause smoke.
White smoke is usually water. Oil is blue smoke. Back smoke is usually incomplete burning of fuel.
If you really want to try to hang onto this car, have a garage check for head gasket failure, loss of compression etc. but… most here will tell you it is a scrapper now. And if you do pay good money to fix it, the next major failure could well be waiting just round the corner.
